MEANING

The women's savings-and-credit group — ten-odd members, weekly savings, bank linkage, and a village's most reliable machinery.

Villages still say "DWCRA group" after the 1990s scheme. SHGs federate into village organisations and mandal samakhyas under SERP, and the administration borrows their network for everything from procurement to pension verification.
