The fee due to government on every load of minor mineral quarried — sand, gravel, metal, earth.

Charged at rates notified by Mines & Geology per tonne or cubic metre. Engineering departments deduct seigniorage from works contractors' bills; quarrying without paying it is what turns a borrow pit into an illegal mining case.
