Head of a revenue division and Sub-Divisional Magistrate — the post a Deputy Collector grows into.

Called Sub-Collector when an IAS probationer holds it, RDO when a Deputy Collector does. Supervises the division's Tahsildars, hears first appeals under Bhu Bharati, runs land acquisition, and exercises SDM magisterial powers under the BNSS.
