Collector
MEANING
The head of the district — Collector for revenue, District Magistrate for order, and chair of nearly everything else.
An IAS officer. Under Bhu Bharati the Collector hears second appeals in record-of-rights matters; as District Magistrate they head the executive magistracy; as Collector they drive schemes, elections, protocol and relief.
