Protected Tenant
MEANING
A tenant recorded under the Hyderabad Tenancy Act of 1950 whose tenancy could ripen into ownership.
The Hyderabad Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act 1950 gave long-standing tenants "protected" status, and Section 38-E transferred ownership of many such holdings to them. Old pahanis carry a protected-tenant column, and PT succession claims still surface in title disputes — a historical regime with a very live tail.
