MEANING
Telangana's preventive detention law of 1986 — aimed at bootleggers, dacoits, drug offenders, goondas, immoral-traffic offenders and land grabbers.
The Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act 1986 lets the District Magistrate or Commissioner of Police, when authorised by government, detain for up to twelve months with Advisory Board review. Heavily used against repeat offenders — and repeatedly censured by constitutional courts when invoked for ordinary law-and-order cases, so the grounds must be drafted with care.
