Succession Certificate

MEANING

A civil court's certificate authorising heirs to collect a deceased person's debts and securities — often demanded by banks, never issuable by revenue.

Granted under the Indian Succession Act 1925. It covers movables — bank balances, shares, dues — and is not a land-title document; petitioners sent to the Tahsildar for one need redirecting to the court.
