MEANING
The 1996 order banning polluting industry and major construction in the ten-kilometre catchment of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar — 84 villages, Supreme-Court-backed, still in force.
A 2000 Supreme Court order upheld the protection; the 2022 attempt to scrap it was never operationalised, and litigation over violations continues. The current policy protects the catchment, with the twin reservoirs' conservation moving under HYDRAA while a final land-use policy is worked out.
